For those who want an extra time to worship, First United Methodist Church in Austin is offering an additional service.
On the second Saturday of each month from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., the church will offer a Contemporary Praise and Worship service. Sarah Lysne, one of the organizers of the service, said they decided to offer the service on Saturday to give people an alternative time to attend a worship service. The format of the service includes a scripture reading, a prayer time, a video, a short discussion time and contemporary praise music, led by The New Proclaimer’s praise group. The group includes eight teen and adult vocalists and three band members. Some of the praise group members are members of other faith communities.
“This is a community effort, and I have enjoyed working with other members of our community to create this worship service,” Lysne said in a press release.
Organizers ask that people bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the local food shelf. To join the New Proclaimers praise group or help with the service in any way, call Sarah at 507- 219-8200. The next Community Praise services will be Saturday March 12, April 9 and May 14 from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. at the church, 204 First Ave. NW. All are welcome.
