The Riverside Figure Skating Club will host its annual showcase event this weekend in Riverside Arena.
The Club, which features 27 skaters, will hold its 42nd annual show at Riverside Arena at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. The show’s theme will be Riverside Shuffle: What’s on your iPod?
Olivia Leuer, who has skated with the club for 11 years, will be skating her last time for the club and she’s left a big impact on the squad. Austin sophomore Amy Stouil said that Leuer has served as a mentor for the team.
“She means a lot,” Stoulil said of Leuer. “She’s not only a really great skater, she’s a friend as well. She’s taught me a lot.”
The club began rehearsing for the show in the last week of January, and head coach Chris Amy said the team is ready to go. This weekend is the biggest weekend of the year for the club.
“They’ve all been working very hard and the kids are very excited for the weekend,” Amy said. “We have quite a few new skaters in our basic groups and it’ll be their first time skating.”
Some of the club’s skaters have experience skating in front of judges at competitions in Rochester, but this event is more about the skaters showcasing their abilities while having fun on the ice.
“This is more of a fun showing,” Amy said. “They’re going to show themselves off to the audience.”
The cost for the show will be $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors and children five and under get in free.
The RFSC is looking for more skaters to join the team, which is a club sport and allows its skaters to letter. Amy said that skaters of any ability or age are encouraged to join and learn how to figure skate.
