Rock singer Ted Nugent has been selected as the fourth entertainer to perform in August at the Freeborn County Fair.

Nugent, 67, will play Aug. 5 at the Grandstand. The announcement was made Thursday.

Mike Woitas with the Freeborn County Fair Board said the board was drawn to select a rock performer because they have heard a lot of people who said they want a non-country act.

Tickets went on sale Thursday; Woitas said tickets are already selling fast, and he expects Nugent to be one of the biggest draws in the fair’s history.

Nugent, known for hits such as “Stranglehold and “Cat Scratch Fever,” has sold tens of millions of records in his career that has spanned more than 50 years.

He is also a political activist and an outspoken supporter of gun rights.

Woitas said despite controversial comments Nugent has made, he is still a great rock performer.

Tickets are available at midwestix.com and are $30 for reserved seats or standing room directly in front of the stage. Otherwise, admission is free with the $10 gate admission to get into the fair.

The fifth performer will be announced May 30 after performing May 29 at Tree Town Music Festival in Forest City.

Performing on Aug. 2 will be LOCASH, formerly known as the LoCash Cowboys, an up-and-coming country duo; performing on Aug. 4 will be American country music singer and songwriter Jerrod Niemann; The Charlie Daniels Band will perform Aug. 6

The fair is renting two 9-feet by 12-feet video screens that will be positioned on the sides of the stage.

The concerts are a large draw for the fair from the surrounding area.
