Austin Public Schools has a very strong music program and I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the percussion section in band and the tenor section in choir. I used to be part of the soccer’s c-squad until I became more active in FFA, 4-H, and the farm. FFA and 4-H have offered me so many opportunities, and believe me, I have pursued them. In FFA, I stayed at the chapter level working my way up from reporter to president. However, in the Career Development Events, specifically general livestock judging, my team and I have always pushed ourselves and each other to do better each time we compete resulting in hardware coming home on more than one occasion. I started small in 4-H as a Clover Bud and young 4-H member but I did not stay small for long. I went from rabbits, to chickens, to sheep, to pigs, and finally to steers. Not only did I grow in livestock production and showing, my leadership skills have excelled as well. I have been on the 4-H Advisory Board since seventh grade, first as youth-at-large then as vice president and now president.

With my agriculture background and passion for livestock, I plan on attending a four-year school to get my degree in veterinary medicine. As of now, I have been accepted into three of the four schools I have applied to: University of Minnesota — Twin Cities; Iowa State University; and South Dakota State University. After school I want to work for a vet clinic to gain experience and a client base so I can eventually have my own clinic.

There is not only one teacher that has made a difference because ever since kindergarten all of my teachers have been amazing! All of my elementary teachers made the years memorable. Every middle school and high school teacher has made an impact on me. All of my teachers have taught what the school required but most of them went above that to prepare us for after school. I cannot say that one teacher had an impact on me because there were so many who pushed me to be my best. Thanks to all of my amazing teachers I will be walking out of high school this June prepared to take on the rest of the world.
