Sister Brian Taylor, 94, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minnesota, died at Assisi Heights on March 15, 2016.
Joan Virginia Taylor was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Adrian, Minnesota, to Bryan C. and Carolyn (Krepfl) Taylor. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1941 from Saint Adrian Parish, Adrian. Sister Brian made first vows in 1944 and perpetual vows in 1947. In 1961, she received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.
Sister Brian began her teaching career in 1944 and for 50 years taught in Catholic Schools in southern Minnesota. She served as a primary teacher at Queen of Angels, Austin, Minnesota, from 1944-1949; St. John/St. Francis School, Rochester from 1949-1953; St. Columba School, Iona from 1953-1957; St. Augustine School, Austin from 1957-1961; and Cathedral School, Winona from 1961-1963. She taught kindergarten and religious education at St. Catherine School, Luverne from 1963-1964 and 1967-1975; religious education at Sacred Heart Parish, Hayfield from 1964-1967; and kindergarten Queen of Angels School, Austin from 1974-1994. Sister Brian was a Head Start teacher aide in Austin Area Public Schools from 1994-1995 and did outreach services for Catholic Charities in Austin from 1996-2001. She moved to Assisi Heights in 2004.
Sister Brian is survived by her Franciscan Community with whom she shared life for 74 years; and her brothers, James Taylor, Adrian, Minnesota, Carroll Taylor, Minneapolis, Minnesota, William (Dee) Taylor, Worthington, Minnesota, and Eugene Taylor, Adrian, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers, Earl Taylor, Paul Taylor, Jerome Taylor, Fr. Robert Taylor, and Bryan Taylor.
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes at Assisi Heights, Rochester. A prayer service, followed by visitation, will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
