Walker breaks his own record as Packer swimmers have solid showing at state prelims

The Packers advanced two relay teams and two individuals to the finals at the Class A state swimming preliminaries in the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis Friday.
The Austin 200-yard freestyle relay team of Seth Clasen, Ben Walker, Mitchell Mayer and Isaac Christopherson took a second off their seed time to take third in the prelims and they were within a couple of seconds of first place Saint Thomas Academy. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Walker, Clasen, Mayer and Christopherson took a couple of seconds off their time to take sixth in the prelims.
Walker and Clasen advanced to the 100-butterfly finals and Walker broke his own school record with a time of 51.58 seconds that was nearly a second faster than his seed time.
Advancing to the consolation finals, were Austin’s 200-yard medley relay team of Kaleb Blaser, Zach Newman, Ben Walker and Mitchell Mayer, Christopherson in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyles, Clasen in the 50-yard freestyle and Mayer in the 100-yard butterfly.
The finals and consolation finals will be held at the Aquatic Center noon Saturday.
