County board looking at quotes for Public Works remodel

The Mower County board is looking to again get quotes for a remodel to the Public Works offices at 1105 Eighth Ave. NE.
Last year, the county sought bids for a budgeted $85,000 to $88,000 office remodel, but the bids came in well over budget at around $140,000.
The board discussed the issue Tuesday, noting that one concern about the past bids was the timing.
Staff thinks more favorable bids could come in this spring with a new estimated cost at $96,400 after a few changes to the project specifications.
The work would include converting a current garage into two offices, adding safety glass at the front window, American’s With Disabilities Act upgrades for handicapped accessibility and more. They’ll also add push-button locks for staff security.
“It’s a remodel to accommodate the staff growth out there and then some of the safety, security concerns,” County Coordinator Craig Oscarson said.
The board will revisit the issue once bids come in later this spring.
