The Packers (2-3 overall, 1-3 Big Nine) took a 2-0 lead into the sixth after Ryan McCormack and Phillip Zynda had RBI groundouts, but thats when the trouble started. Winona (3-4 overall, 2-3 Big Nine) loaded the bases off a walk, a single and a hit batter and the Winhawks scored two runs off on Austin error on what could’ve been a double play ball. Austin eventually did turn a double play, but Winona took a 3-2 lead when Winona’s Joshua Seppa came up with a two-out infield RBI single.

Austin senior Nate Conner allowed just one hit in the first five innings.

“It was a pitchers dual for both of us. Nate did a great job and their pitcher threw great. [Nate] was throwing strikes and he had three pitches working. Dylan called a great game,” Austin head coach Chris Gogolewski said. “When they get those opportunities and get runners on, you’ve got to complete the plays and we didn’t do that tonight. We opened the door and they took advantage.”

Austin left runners on first and second in the third and it left the tying run on second base in the sixth.

“Offensively we need to capitalize on runners on scoring position,” Gogolewski said. “We missed some signs too.”
