Mastering mathematics; Austin fifth-graders compete in mathematics competition

Fifth-grade students from Austin plan to compete in the annual Math Masters of Minnesota Competition.
Fifth-grade students will compete on April 21 at Austin High School in Ove Berven Gym. Individual competition will begin at 9 a.m. and team competition will begin around10:30 a.m. Awards will begin around 11:20 a.m. Sixth-grade students competed on March 3 at Austin High School.
Students have practiced since the mid-winter of 2015 before and after school hours to prepare for this competition and work to improve their math skills. The purpose of the program is to challenge students and schools to use critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities, and to give recognition for academic effort and achievement.
