Riverland Community College recognized students who received scholarship awards and their sponsors during its Evening of Excellence scholarship award banquet earlier this month. It was attended by more than 420 students, family members, foundation board members, donors, staff and faculty to celebrate with the students.

This year, more than 500 scholarships valued at more than $540,000 were given out. This was the most ever awarded in the history of the Riverland Community College Foundation, according to a press release. The scholarships help students afford the cost of their education and allow them to work fewer hours so they can pay more attention to their studies, said Steve Bowron, dean for institutional advancement at the college.
