Track and field: Packers sweep AL as Gash improves on triple jump

The Austin boys and girls each picked up a dual win over Albert Lea in Larry Gilbertson track and field Friday. The Packer boys won 118-27 and the Packer girls won 95-42.
Austin junior Jany Gash opened his season on a high note as he won the triple jump with a career best jump of 44 feet, 4.5 inches. Gash’s best jump at the Class AA meet last year was a distance of 42-5. Gash also won the high jump for the Packers.
Austin senior Madison Overby had a big meet for the girls as she won the 1600-meter run, she won the 800-meter run and she had a career best 400-meter split on the first place 4 x 400-meter relay team.
Austin’s Sydney Marsh also had a solid day on jumps as she improved her long jump and triple jump distances by more than a foot from last year’s opening meet.
