Morey captured medalist honors at the Big Nine meet and he helped lead the Packers to a third place finish out of 12 teams. Morey shot a 76 on a day where winds reached up to 30 miles per hour, but he wasn’t even thinking about a first place finish until the scores started coming in after the meet.

“It’s a huge honor. I wasn’t really expecting it. That makes it all that much better. It’s something I definitely won’t forget,” Morey said. “I was able to keep my ball low today. The course definitely played tough and guess I was able to hit the shots I needed to hit to compete.”

Morey found his confidence early on as he started off two over Par on his first five holes and then he hit an eagle on No. 6 to get going.

“From that point I kind of turned it on,” Morey said.

Austin head coach Matt Raso said it was nice to see an Austin golfer come up with top honors in the conference meet.

“Ethan’s had a great attitude and I give a lot of credit to him,” Raso said. “I’m super proud and super happy for him.”

As a team, the Packers shot a 329 as they edged out fourth place Northfield, which had a 331. Mankato East won the meet with a 317 and Red Wing was second with a 322.

“To finish third is pretty awesome,” Raso said. “I’m proud of the boys.”

James Snee shot an 83 and Matt Nuemann had an 84 for the Packers, who have now shot below a 330 in three straight outings.

“This is the best three days we’ve had as a team as long as I can remember,” Morey said. “I’ve been here five years and I don’t know if we’ve ever shot in the 320s, let alone three days in a row.”

Austin scoring: Ethan Morey, 76; James Snee, 83; Matt Neumann, 84; Jace Greenman, 86; Ryan Kempen, 89; Noah Bawek, 89
