The Austin City Council is scheduled to discuss workforce housing tax credits and their 2016 goals during the work session at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting.
The Housing and Redevelopment Authority of Austin is working with Three Rivers Community Action to again apply for tax credits to be used for a workforce housing project.
The HRA is asking the council to approve the use of TIF funding, depending on the following items:
• City council approval of Pay-As-You-Go tax increment financing district
• Purchase agreement by the Austin HRA for the Fox Pointe Development
• Development of about 38 town home rental units (phase 1)
• City council approval of land use changes
• Development of partners for the project
The application for the tax credits would be submitted in June and a decision would be made in late fall of this year.
Jon Erichson, of the HRA, said the process is extremely competitive and there are many things that have to come together for the project to move forward.
The council is also expected to approve their 2016 goals, which are four goals from the council’s retreat and department head presentations from earlier this year.
The four goals include:
• Serving the residents of Austin with quality city services that are digitally inclusive and professional and encourage engagement with stakeholders and citizens.
• Make Austin a leader in economic development growth while focusing on adding quality paying jobs and tax base enhancement.
• Make Austin an attractive community with public amenities and protect our natural resources to enhance the quality of life, while balancing the costs for these enhancements.
• Make it a priority to be a community that depends on the protection of its tax base and preserving existing housing and improve livability in neighborhoods.
