Grace E. Thompson, 100, of Ames, Iowa, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, May 16, 2016, at The Waterford at Ames assisted living facility.

Grace Elizabeth Schoenfeld was born March 30, 1916 in Castlewood, South Dakota, the daughter of Samuel and Edith (Ching) Schoenfeld. She met her future husband, Gilford A. Thompson, in Minneapolis while Gilford was serving in the military. They were married on December 13, 1942 in Minneapolis. The couple raised three sons. Grace and Gilford made their home in Austin and were members of the First Congregational Church. Grace played violin and piano. She enjoyed dancing at the Terp Ballroom and sewing. She made many dresses. Grace belonged to Eastern Star. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Grace is survived by her three sons, Paul (Judith) Thompson of Ankeny, Iowa, Dean (Bobbi) Thompson and Mark (Rosemary) Thompson, both of Ames, Iowa; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Edith Schoenfeld, her husband Gilford in 2011, her grandson Michael, her brothers Chet and Willie and her sister Alice.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shari Mason officiating. Friends may call from 2-3 p.m., immediately preceding the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
