The Austin track and field track team had three athletes win Big Nine titles as the Packer girls finished fifth and the Packer boys took 11th at the Big Nine meet in Faribault Friday.
Austin senior Madison Overby broke both two of her school records as she took first in the 1600-meter run and the 3200-meter run, Rachel Quandt won the 100-meter hurdles for the second straight year and Jany Gash won the triple jump.
Overby, a senior, ran the 1600-meter run in 5:05.29, which was four seconds faster than her previous school record that she set earlier this season she ran the 3200-meter run in 11:07.78, which was 21 seconds faster than the record she set in 2012.
Quandt, a senior, won the hurdles with a time of 15.67 seconds and Austin freshman Taige Iverson was right behind her in second place to earn all-conference honros with a time of 16.32 seconds.
“I’ve known she’s had it in her,” Austin head coach Nancy Jones said of Iverson. “We just had to get her to start sprinting in between the hurdles. She had a breakthrough meet and had a really good race.”
Gash, a junior, won the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet, 10 inches.
