A 21-year-old Austin woman was hospitalized after being cut across her hand with a knife following a domestic assault Wednesday night.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Fifth Avenue Northwest, according to Austin Police Capt. David McKichan.

The 36-year-old male suspect left the scene and was found riding away on a bike in the 1500 block of Fourth Avenue Northwest. Alcohol may have been a factor and no weapon has been located. If a weapon is found in the neighborhood, police advised neighbors to report it to the police.

The suspect is in custody and a formal complaint is pending.
