The Austin City Council approved a variance for a fence for Hormel Foods Corp.’s new research and development facility at its regular meeting Monday night.

The proposed 12-foot fence will protect three large pieces of mechanical equipment at Hormel Foods’s new research and development facility, enhance security and screen the mechanical system, while also enhancing the general appearance of the property.

The motion passed unanimously.
