A 28-year-old Alden man is facing possible charges for a DWI after he drove eastbound in the westbound Interstate 90 lanes early Monday morning.
At about 12:23 a.m., officers responded to a Minnesota State Patrol report of the vehicle driving near the 165-mile marker, according to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger.
A few minutes later, dispatch received a call the same vehicle was near mile marker 172, which is about three miles west of Austin.
Officers located the vehicle at mile marker 175 and tried to get the man to pull over, but he didn’t. They then followed the car, which then crossed over the median to the eastbound lanes.
Another officer set up stop sticks, which the vehicle hit, puncturing one tire before the car continued eastbound in the westbound lanes again until crossing the Austin Sixth Street Northeast bridge.
The driver did a U-turn and then exited at the off ramp to Sixth Street Northeast, where officers were able to stop him.
About seven cars passed in the westbound lanes during the incident, according to Krueger.
During the pursuit, the suspect’s speeds averaged about 65 mph, Krueger said.
