Galen L. Williamson, 66, of Austin, Minnesota died Thursday March 10, 2016, at his home.
Galen Lee was born March 20,1949, in Austin, Minnesota to Lawrence and Beverly (Ellston) Williamson. Galen attended Austin schools, and was working for Kolb Bakery in Austin. Galen continued as a baker in Albert Lea for several years before moving to Denver, Colorado. He returned to Austin, and began his career as a commercial glazier. In 1985 he met his future wife. Galen was united in marriage on May 3, 1986 to Melodie Meyer. Galen and Melodie later divorced but remained close friends until his passing. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Four years ago Galen was proud to have finally become a “Harley Owner”! Galen was known for baking wonderful bread and lefse. He loved his nieces and nephews, and time spent with his cats, especially Marguerite.
Galen is survived by Melodie Williamson of Austin; siblings Carol (Laurlyn “Bub”) Lau of Glenville, Robert (Isabel) Williamson of Aurora, Colorado, Joanne (Robert) Bastyr of Austin; nieces and nephews Lisa Klooster of Des Moines, Iowa, Lori Poole of Glenville, Chad Lau of Glenville, Jennifer Hernandez of Austin, Kimberly Bastyr of Austin, Vincent Williamson of Arvada, CO, Abigail Wilmes of Colorado Springs, CO; former brother-in-law Mike Meyer of Austin and his sons Joshua and John; former father-in-law and mother-in-law Alvin and Ramona Meyer of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents, and brother Lawrence in infancy.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Reverend Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Galen’s family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service Saturday, at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com
