A piece of rubber mat near the playground at Woodson Kindergarten Center melted after juveniles were lighting fireworks on Friday.

At about 10:01 p.m., Austin police responded to the school to a report of a fire. Juveniles had been lighting off fireworks and added wood chips to the small fire they had going, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger. It spread to the rubber mat and melted about a one-by-one foot square.

Officers were able to put out the fire with an extinguisher and water.

The report is being forwarded to the school resource officer.
