Learn about macular degeneration
Published 12:01 pm Sunday, June 5, 2016
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a disease that causes the gradual loss of sight due to blurring or loss of central vision.
This is often as a result of a deterioration of the macula, a yellow pigmented structure at the back of the eye that is responsible for our detailed color vision. The severity of the disease depends on each person and on how quickly it is detected. AMD is a chronic disease — it cannot be cured and in many patients sight cannot be restored after it is lost. However certain forms of the disease can be treated. Early detection is important to potentially stop the spread of the disease and to protect your sight.
If you have this disease or someone you know has it the Mower County Senior Center hosts a support group at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The guest speaker is Lisa Largus. This is free to everyone.
We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the senior center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and sandwich for 50 cents.
Tuesday we are having scalloped potatoes for only $2. You are always welcome at the center. See you here.
