Nancy Louise Grunewald, 65, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Sacred Heart Care Center with her family by her side after a twenty-four year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Nancy Tschida was born to Eugene and Caroline Tschida on Dec. 24, 1950, in St. Paul, Minnesota. She graduated from Pacelli High School in 1968. On Sept. 18, 1972, Nancy married Jim Grunewald at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The couple was married for 41 years and raised four children. She and Jim had 13 grandchildren.
Nancy and Jim owned and operated G & G Heating and Air Conditioning in Austin where Jim ran the calls and Nancy ran Jim. She also worked at Hoversten Law Office for several years. When Nancy was no longer able to work at G & G, her next adventure in life was homeschooling their youngest daughter Carrie. As if that wasn’t enough, during that time Nancy also started her career as an author writing three children’s books.
Nancy’s greatest joy was her family and her time spent with them whether it be boat rides up and down the Mississippi River, weekends at Leech Lake or simply playing board games around the dining room table. Nancy had a heart for serving others and volunteering in the community.
Nancy is survived by her four children, son Chris (Laura) Grunewald, Austin, Minnesota; daughters Angie (Mike) Bothun, Austin, Minnesota; Lisa (Zach) Schara, Austin, Minnesota; Carrie (John-Howard) Carroll, Rochester, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren, Carley, Owen, Jora, Samantha, Josiah, Bubba, Maisy, Dane, Grace, Chase, Amy, Henry and Julia; siblings, Sue Lastine, Tom (Angelina) Tschida, Carole (Scott) Anderson; Rob (Lisa) Tschida; Joe Tschida; Patrick Tschida; Andy Tschida; brother-in-law, Phil (Mary) Grunewald; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, parents Eugene and Caroline Tschida; brother, Michael; mother and father-in-law Henry and Marie Grunewald.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery with a reception to follow. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church for one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the family and will be dispersed to organizations close to Nancy’s heart.
