A pair of Austin track and field athletes earned state berths at the Section 1AA preliminaries in Lakeville Thursday.

Austin senior Madison Overby and junior Jany Gash both earned trips to next week’s Class AA state meet and the Packers will also have plenty of other athletes in Saturday’s finals.

Gash earned his second straight trip to state when he took first in the triple jump with a distance of 43-10.5.

Overby clinched her first ever trip to the state meet by taking second in the 3200-meter run. Overby re-set her own school record with a time of 11:02.39 and that was enough to edge out Red Wing eighth grader Grace Johnson by three seconds to get to state.

In the girls meet, Odongona Oballa advanced to the finals in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash, Rachel Quandt and Taige Iverson reached the finals in the 100-meter hurdles and Paige Raymond and Sydney Marsh reached the finals in the 300-meter hurdles,

In the boys meet, Sean Baker advanced to the finals in the 800-meter run and Trent Brown reached the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles finals.
