Elenor (Meikle) Bakke, 88, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away in the early morning hours on Friday, July 15, 2016, at the Field Crest Care Center, Hayfield, Minnesota.
Elenor Estella Meikle was born Nov. 21, 1927, to Roy and Ina (Evenson) Meikle. She was raised in Waukon, Iowa, where she attended school, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Elenor, her parents and siblings, moved to Austin in July 1945, and she began working at the Federal Bakery. She then met Stan Bakke and they were married in November 1946. Stan and Elenor enjoyed traveling from coast to coast on their motorcycle, camping and making friends wherever they went. Elenor also worked in the beauty shop at St Mark’s Living, where she retired after 24 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan, mother and father, brother James, and sisters Sheloy and Jessie.
Elenor is survived by two children: Marie Nehls of Austin and Larry Bakke of Austin; grandchildren: Nikohl, Erin, Gunner, Dillon, Wyatt and Thor; great-grandchildren: Feather, Ethan, Faith, Grace, Joseph and Joy; and Roger Freitag, who was like a son to her.
She loved her family and friends, and they loved her. She was a dear lady and will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016, at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Reverend Elizabeth Endicott officiating. Private interment will be held at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the mortuary for one hour before the service on Friday.
