Get to Know: Austin soccer player Tucker Nelson

Tucker Nelson is a senior forward on the Austin Packer soccer team. Austin will open its season against Byron in Art Hass Stadium 7 p.m. Friday.
Q: What sports do you play?
A: Only soccer, all year round.
Q: How did you originally get into soccer?
A: I’m not completely sure, I was very young.
Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?
A: On the first week of tryouts I was ever in when I was young, I was working out alongside the older guys. I felt like playing with the pros.
Q: What have you learned from playing sports?
A: I have learned that if you put genuine effort, time and passion into something, you will get better and you will enjoy it. I have also learned lots of discipline and responsibility.
Q: What is the hardest part about soccer?
A: Probably staying mentally strong, if you can mentally stay in a game you will always be in it.
Q: Who is your biggest sports role model and why?
A: My friend, teammate, and classmate Sean Baker. Sean has taught me just about everything I know about playing soccer, staying motivated, and just being an all around better character. He has been working with me since we were young kids.
Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
A: Favorite movie is Forest Gump.
Q: What is your favorite subject in school?
A: The language arts classes for sure.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: A Private Practice Therapist.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Any type of seafood.
Q: What are your plans after high school?
A: Attend a four year college for sure. I have looked at Colorado colleges and the University of Wyoming. I would like to study psychology, business, and possibly some writing.
Q: What’s a fun fact about you or hobby you enjoy that most people don’t know about?
A: I enjoy the outdoors almost as much as soccer. Hiking, fishing, camping, and snowboarding are all very enjoyable for me.

A: ‘Pursuit of happiness’ remix, ‘Spirit in the Sky’, and ‘Intro’ by The XX

A: Any song by John Mayer or the Lumineers.
