MINNEAPOLIS — More than 150 guns were collected in Minneapolis during a gun buyback program.
The response from residents was so great that the program shut down early after they ran out of the Visa gift cards that were being exchanged for the weapons.
The Star Tribune reports more than $250,000 in gift cards was issued during Saturdays’ buyback.
As part of the buyback, people could turn in firearms anonymously. They received $15 to $300 gift cards, depending on the type of gun.
The weapons gathered will be given to Twin Cities’ artists for work focused on the impact of gun violence.
