Celebrating the last of the summer season
Published 10:01 am Sunday, September 25, 2016
Before the last of summer is over we wanted to make sure and bring you a chicken salad over shoestrings luncheon.
Join us for lunch and get entertained by Jonny Bird. Cost is only $5.50 for members or $6.50 for non-members. Please RSVP by stopping by the Mower County Senior Center or calling 507-433-2370. Entertainment sponsored by Primrose Retirement Community.
Enjoy great music from the legendary voices of yesteryear with Jonny Bird, the Man of Many Hats. From Sinatra to Como to Martin, as well as country legends including Robbins, Pride, Jennings and more, the Man of Many hats has a hat for every style.
History lesson
At 2 p.m. on Thursday, John A. Haymond from the Mower County Historical Society is back.
Mutual Self-Destruction: The Origins of the First World War will have Haymond discussing how the political landscape of Europe in 1914 pretty much guaranteed a war between all the major countries.
War therefore remained possible, and the leading international political institution, the Concert of Europe, was too weak to prevent it. Powers would try to resolve their differences peacefully through a conference of ambassadors.
It was a valuable face-saving device if governments wished to use it, but in 1914 when Britain proposed a conference, Germany encouraged Austria-Hungary to refuse.
We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the senior center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and sandwich for 50 cents. On Tuesday we will be serving reuben casserole for only $2. You are always welcome at the center.
