Austin fall police auction to be held on Saturday

The 2016 fall auction hosted by the Austin Police Department will take place in the Packer Arena parking lot at 10 a.m. on Oct. 29.
You may look at items on www.auctionsgo.com or www.thompsonaustionservice.com to view some of the items, vehicles, bikes and miscellaneous items will be auctioned.
Boys volleyball
A reminder that boys in grades fourth to 12th grade can learn the game of volleyball from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sundays through Dec. 18 in Hastings Gym located in Austin High School. Drop in or if you have questions please call Aleta Myers at 507-438-4318.
Pickleball
On Wednesday nights through Nov. 30 we will offer open gym from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Ellis Middle School for Pickleball. We will use the auxiliary gym located down the short hall next to the women’s locker room. Enter the school through the East gym doors.
The cost is $2 per time, per person and you can pay at the gym.

Club volleyball
For those interested in the Austin Volleyball Club, this is a traveling league for girls on 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U teams. Practice will start on Jan. 9 and will be held Monday and Thursday night at Ellis Middle School. Times will be announced at a later date. This is open registration with no tryouts.
Deadline to register is Nov. 7 with fees to include the North Country Region registration, uniform shirt, administration fee and five tournaments. The 12U fee is $230, 14U is $265 and 16U/18U is $270.
The registration packet can be picked up at our office or found on our website at www.ci.austin.mn.us, you will have to print it off to fill it in. Please return the forms along with the fee to our office.
There will be a parent meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 in the Ruby Rupner Auditorium at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center to discuss tournament dates and other information. Questions?

Riverside arena schedule
Public skate dates: 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 23. Cost is $4 to skate plus $1 if you need to rent skates. Purchase a family membership for $70 (two people) and add other family members for $5 each. Offer expires March 31. Public skates will move to Packer Arena when it opens on Nov. 5. Watch for the calendar or notifications on Facebook. Make sure to like us so you receive up to date information.
Adult Open Hockey: Wednesday’s from 6:30 to 8 p.m. through October. Cost is $6 per person each event; must be 16 — goalies are free.
Intern position
The Jay C. Hormel Nature Center is currently accepting applications for the intern teacher/naturalist position that will begin no later than Jan. 3.
You must have a minimum two years, four years preferred, college study in natural resources, biology or environmental education. Must have good written and oral communication skills and a willingness to work flexible hours.
This position entails some of the following: teach environmental, conservation and outdoor education to all ages with a primary emphasis on children preschool through seventh grade, welcome visitors, feed and handle critters, present radio programs, participate in prairie restoration efforts, write press releases, participate in major events such as the summer Water Festival, Thanksgiving Feast, Halloween Warm-up and summer adventure programs.
