The Austin City Council approved two more housing abatements through the Austin Housing Initiative Monday.
Patrick and Angela Harty received a five-year tax abatement under the new housing initiative, and they will have $10,130 in taxes as they build a $450,000 home on Sixth Street Northeast in Austin.
The Austin School Board agreed to the rebate last month, and the county board approved a rebate last month.
Bigelow and Lennon Construction also received a rebate for $11,255 for a $500,000 spec town home construction project on 28th Street Southwest.
The Austin Housing Initiative was agreed to by the Austin City Council, Mower County board and Austin Public School Board earlier this year as an incentive to encourage new housing projects after numbers have been stagnant in recent years.
The three-year initiative offers a five-year abatement to homeowners and developers who apply.
