DULUTH — Authorities say a third person has died on icy roads as the first big snowstorm of the season swept through Minnesota last week.
The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office says 16-year-old Nathan Gould of Holyoke was driving a car east on a curve Friday when he lost control on the icy, snow-covered road and collided with a westbound SUV.
Gould later died at a Duluth hospital. The 29-year-old Moose Lake woman who was driving the SUV suffered minor injuries. Two children in her vehicle were not hurt.
At least two other deaths happened on icy roads Friday, in southwestern Minnesota. The State Patrol says a 42-year-old man from Fulda died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 59 while a 68-year-old Morton woman died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 71.
