Shirley Mae Underdahl, 74, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at her home in Barnes, Wisconsin.
Shirley was born May 22, 1942, in Geneva Township in Freeborn County to Merle and Celesta (Reese) Hoy. She attended Dodge Center High School. Shirley married Curtis Underdahl on Sept. 23, 1960, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. The couple lived in Moscow, Minnesota, for 55 years before recently moving to Barnes, Wisconsin, in February 2016. She was employed at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea for 27 years and retired in 2006.
Shirley was a member of the Moscow Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery work and gave many away as gifts. But what she loved most was spending time with her grandchildren. She loved all children and they all loved her.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis of Barnes, Wisconsin; children: Larry (Kim) Underdahl of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Julie (Richard) Needham of Barnes, Wisconsin, Terry (Sue) Underdahl of Glencoe, Jody Hogstad of Barnes Wisconsin, Jim (Chasity) Underdahl of Owatonna; sister, Margie and brother-in-law, Richard Priebe of Waseca, Minnesota; brother, Danny Hoy of Garden Grove, California; sister-in-law, Judy Hoy of Faribault, Minnesota; sister-in-law Hazel and brother-in-law Floyd Hansen of Hayward, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Bernard Matejcek of Waseca; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Celesta Hoy; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kermit and Minnie Underdahl; brother, Darrell and sister-in-law Lucille Hoy; brother, Doug and sister-in-law, Alta Hoy; brother, Merle Hoy, Jr.; sister, Janice Matejcek; sister-in-law, Marion and brother-in-law, Howard Bouerhuis; and one child in infancy.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Oakland Lutheran Church. Rev. Waldemar Gies will officiate. Interment will be at Moscow Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
