Fatal two-vehicle crash north of Hayfield closes Hwy. 56; Pickup collides head-on with car

The Minnesota State Patrol was on the scene of a fatal crash that took place just north of Hayfield and closed a portion of Highway 56 early Tuesday morning.
According to the MSP report, the accident, which took place about two miles north of Hayfield on Highway 56, involved two vehicles: A 2002 Chevy Silverado and 2014 Ford Focus.
The report states that the Silverado was northbound on Highway 56 when it attempted to pass another vehicle and struck the southbound Focus head-on.
It was unclear as to how many died in the crash as MSP was still investigating as of 7 a.m. this morning. The stretch opened again just after 9:30 a.m.
Hayfield Fire and Rescue, Hayfield Ambulance, Dodge Center Fire and Rescue, Dodge Center Ambulance, Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Gold Cross Ambulance responded.
The identies of the occupants have not been identified.
