No one was injured when a bus carrying Austin Public School students was rear-ended by a van on U.S. Highway 218 Wednesday.

According to Superintendent David Krenz, nine students were on the bus when the mishap occurred just before 7 a.m. a few miles north of Austin near Cedar Valley Conservation Club. The bus driver had just completed a rural pick-up of students and was returning to town when the accident happened.

The impact was apparently so minor that “the kids thought the bus had a flat tire and that was why they were getting off the bus,” Krenz said, adding he was thankful that all the students and drivers were uninjured. Parents were contacted shortly after the accident.

Another bus came to the scene to pick up the students and deliver them to their respective schools.
