Several schools close in anticipation of storm

MINNEAPOLIS — Dozens of schools in Minnesota have canceled classes in anticipation of the first significant wintry blast of the season.

Forecasters predict blizzard conditions beginning Friday across central Minnesota where 6 to 12 inches of snow could accumulate by nightfall. Winds of 50 to 60 mph are expected to make travel very difficult.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for Friday in eastern parts of North and South Dakota and western Minnesota, as well as winter storm warnings for other parts of those states and Nebraska.
