The new Hy-Vee grocery story at the former Oak Park Mall will come with a new quick care clinic run by Mayo Clinic Health System.
The Mayo Clinic Express Care Clinic in the 1001 18th Ave. NW Austin Hy-Vee grocery store is expected to open in late spring 2017.
“The new clinic will enhance access to our services, provide convenient care, and help patients get the right care where it is most convenient for them,” said Dr. Alberto Marcelin, Family Medicine co-chair for Mayo Clinic Health System – Albert Lea and Austin, in a press release. “We are excited to partner with Hy-Vee to offer this service to our patients.”
The clinic will be staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants and will offer treatment for conditions like sore throats, sinus infections, colds and flu, and minor cuts. No appointments are necessary, and most insurance will be accepted. Express Care is an extension of primary care offerings and is intended for non-emergency services.
Construction of the Express Care, which will be adjacent to the pharmacy, is underway as work continues on the new Hy-Vee.
The clinic will be open extended hours on weekdays and weekends, and offer the benefit of connectivity through Mayo Clinic Health System’s electronic health record.
The new Express Care in the Austin Hy-Vee will be the 10th Mayo Clinic Health System Express Care location. The first opened December 2006 in Albert Lea.
The new Hy-Vee is anticipated to be between 60,000 square feet to 90,000 square feet in size with the most up-to-date trends in food offerings.
Hy-Vee acquired the Oak Park Mall last November with help from the city of Austin, the Austin Port Authority and a $3.65 million grant from The Hormel Foundation.
