The MacPhail Children’s Community Choir, a 120-voice children’s choir of third and fourth grade students from the Austin Public Schools, will perform alongside the Austin Symphony Orchestra and tubist Mark Woeste in “Christmas Past, Present & Future” as part of the Symphony’s 60th season.

The student choir meets weekly after school with the goal of learning two-part singing during the year. For many, this is their first exposure to choral music activity, building off the foundation of their elementary school music programming.

“This is a thrilling opportunity for our MacPhail Children’s Community Choir. To be able to perform in such a formal concert of any kind is a unique opportunity for these young students, but performing alongside a symphony orchestra is a truly new experience that many of these kids have never had before,” said Cheryl Collins, Austin Community Project Manager, MacPhail Center for Music, in a press release. “We are so excited to introduce the Children’s Choir to the sounds of a symphony orchestra. It’s also a fabulous chance for our community to attend a festive holiday concert and get us all in the spirit.”

“Christmas Past, Present & Future” will celebrate the season with some old favorites as well as a few inspiring and anthemic pieces.
