Arlen Galen Jacobson passed peacefully away at home on Jan. 7, 2017, succumbing to the battle of COPD at age 76. We rejoice he is now breathing comfortably in heaven.

Arlen (“Jake”) was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and moved to Austin, Minnesota, during his elementary years, graduating from Austin High School in 1959. He proudly shared his memories of being on the “State Champs” football team of ‘58.

He joined the Navy shortly after and was honorably discharged in 1963. Working at the “hog cut” for Hormel soon followed, rotating all three shifts. He was also in the National Guard for 13 years during this time. I am proud of his humbly serving our country for 17 years and the great example of hard work he always displayed!

After the strike, he moved to West St. Paul, Minnesota, becoming an apartment manager and school bus driver for Sibley High School for over 20 years. He enjoyed metal-detecting, golf, cribbage, and poker with family and friends.

He is survived by son, Jerry (Ruth) Jacobson, Hartland, Wisconsin; daughter, Sandra (James) Braun, Hanover, Minnesota; and son, Evan (Lisa) Jacobson, Peoria, Illinois; and grandchildren, Caleb (Kristen) Jacobson, Joshua Jacobson, Jerica Braun, Janessa Braun, Chloe Jacobson, Jacob Braun, Olivia Jacobson, and Sefin Jacobson.

Dad didn’t want a funeral nor memorial service. Family is arranging a graveside service at Fort Snelling for this summer, date to be determined. He will be loved, missed and never forgotten!

If desired, please send memorials to Disabled American Veterans (www.DAV.org–>gifts) in honor of Arlen Jacobson. Thank you!
