Carmen Start, age 92, of Ostrander, Minnesota, died Dec. 21, 2016, at Golden Living East in Rochester, Minnesota.
Carmen Leland Start was born May 17, 1924, in Bennington Township to Carl and Louise (Slindee) Start. He attended and graduated from LeRoy High School in 1942 and farmed his entire life in the Bennington Township area. Carmen was united in marriage to Thelma Hagen in Pigeon Falls, Wisconsin, on Jan. 1, 1961.
Carmen loved farming his land and working outdoors, he spent many hours in his shop, tinkering around his farm and keeping his farm equipment in top shape. He enjoyed fishing, taking several trips to Canada with his family, he also enjoyed going to garage sales with his sister, Lorraine, looking for bargins.
He is survived by his wife Thelma, of Ostrander; two daughters, Lisa (Michael) Start-Khalilian and Sindy Start; three grandchildren, Seth, Ezra and Sofia; and one sister, Lorraine McInnes of Rochester.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday Jan. 6, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ostrander, with the Rev. Herman Bakker officiating. Burial will take place in Bennington Cemetery, Bennington Township, Mower County. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
