Get to Know: Austin swimmer Kaleb Blaser

Kaleb Blaser is a senior on the Austin swimming diving team.
Q: What sports do you compete in?
A: I just swim for the school sports, but I love disc golfing in the summer.
Q: How did you originally get into swimming?
A: I got into swimming because of the legend Micheal Phelps. I also wanted to try swimming! [Austin head coach] Michelle Swank is also my cousin and she encouraged me to do it!
Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?
A: My favorite swim memory is probably waffle breakfast after Saturday practices and Craig Heimark’s house.
Q: What have you learned from sports?
A: The biggest thing I’ve learned is patience, and how to be a team, and leader. I’ve always had great role models.
Q: What is the hardest part about swimming?
A: The hardest thing about swimming is definitely the practices. Nothing like swimming three miles a day.
Q: Who is your biggest sports role model and why?
A: My biggest sports role model has actually been the seniors for every year. They taught me how to be resilient, and to keep pushing. I’ll always be grateful.
Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
A: My favorite movie is Inception.
Q: What is your favorite subject in school?
A: American History.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: My dream job is a pandaoligist. Someone who works with pandas all day and takes care of them.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: My favorite food is a good fat cheeseburger.
Q: What are your plans after high school?
A: My plan after high school is to attend The University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire, and major in secondary education, to hopefully one day teach American history to high schoolers.
Q: What’s a fun fact about you or hobby you enjoy most people don’t know about?
A: I love classic rock, and other oldies. Not a fan of nowadays rap.
Q: What are your top three pump songs before a big game?
A: ‘Till I collapse’ by Eminem, ‘Come on Eileen’ and ‘Death of a Martian’ by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Q: What are your top three guilty pleasure songs?
A: ‘I hate you I love you’ by Gnash, ‘The winner is’ by Danny Devotchka and ‘One is the loneliest number’ by Three Dog Night.
