Joy Carll Dean, 74

Joy Carll Dean, 74, died peacefully on Dec. 24, 2016.

Joy was born on Feb. 24, 1942, in Austin, Minnesota. She married Jay Dean in 1964. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1964 with a B.S. in Medical Technology and worked for 47 years at the University of Minnesota Hospital.

Joy loved spending time with her friends and family. She had lasting friendships from the hospital lab, the uptown neighborhood, Grace Trinity Community Church, her book club of 27 years, and Austin High School. She was an avid reader, she loved to learn, loved good food, and rejoiced in her family. Joy was a caring listener and devoted parent and grandmother. She was dedicated to her grandchildren and was a regular caregiver in their lives.

She is survived by her husband, Jay; daughter, Margo (Jon) Geffen; son, Michael (Mandy) Dean; grandchildren, Zoe, Van, Crosby and Lucy (expected in April); her sister, Barb (Norm); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends throughout the country. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Katherine Carll; nephew, David; grand niece, Katie; and grand nephew, Tim.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Jan. 9, 2017, at Grace Trinity Church, 1430 West 28th St. in Minneapolis, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Grace Trinity Community Church or the Children’s Cancer Research Fund.
