Letter: All women must make voices heard

I see there is a “Women’s March” scheduled in Washington, D.C., the day after the presidential inauguration. The stated mission is to “send a bold message to our new government on their first day in office, and to the world that women’s rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us. We call on all defenders of human rights to join us.”
Without naming the mission statements of the 300-plus partner organizations/groups that will participate, I wonder how many actually defend the most basic human right: the right to life. The website lists partners including Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation and National Abortion Federation. Clearly, these organizations do not defend life.
As a society shouldn’t every human being be protected at each stage of life from conception to natural death? We mustn’t forget that the unborn, the elderly, the sick, the poor and the disabled are all human beings and deserving of the same rights as everyone else.
There are other women’s voices out here that need to be heard. I invite all women (and family members) to gather for another march: The March for Life. This march embraces the most basic human right.
Minnesota’s March for Life takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, on the Capitol Mall south of the Capitol building in St. Paul. A brief program will follow on the Capitol steps at 2:30 p.m.
The national March for Life will be in Washington, D.C., on Friday, Jan. 27, at 1:00 p.m. Since 1974, this peaceful demonstration has grown to draw 650,000 people.
It is important, as women, that we all make our voices heard.
Sue Anderson,
Austin
