Pacelli Catholic Schools in Austin will observe Catholic Schools Week Sunday through Saturday, with special events planned each day.
With the theme “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service,” the following plans have been made:
On Sunday from 8:30 a.m.; to 12:30 p.m., Pacelli family and students, along with the Knights of Columbus, will serve up a gourmet pancake breakfast, with all-you-can-eat pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausage at St. Augustine’s Jennings Hall. Free will donations will help lower the cost of Pacelli’s middle school trip to the Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center.
On Monday, a school-wide “Minute to Win It” competition will be held, along with various activities that pair middle and high school students with preschool and elementary students throughout the week. A “Family Art Night” will also be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Pacelli Elementary cafeteria. Hot dogs, chips and treats will be available at $3 each. A few players from the Austin Bruins will also stop by to show off a bit of creativity, too.
Spirit Day comes to the school on Tuesday, and students and teachers are encouraged to wear their green. Teachers will treat students to the annual “Teacher Swap” in classrooms, and Bruiser from the Bruins plans on making an appearance at the junior high basketball game against Glenville-Emmons at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m.
National Appreciation Day for Catholic Schools is observed Wednesday with an all-school Mass. Students and staff will participate in recitation of the prayer, “Live Divine Mercy Chaplet” for the nation at 1:30 p.m. Pacelli invites the community to pray with the students and staff.
On Thursday, students will invite heroes in their everyday lives to a VIP lunch; during the afternoon parents will take on junior, junior varsity and varsity boys and girls basketball players during a 1 p.m. game in the Pacelli gym.
Retired Pacelli teachers will be invited back to school on Friday to help judge the second annual “Brain Bowl.” Students in grades K-12 will compete in all subject areas for prizes, to demonstrate their academic growth.
On Saturday, in support of families, the school encourages everyone to bring a non-perishable food item to the girls’ home basketball game against Maranatha Christian Academy. They are invited to cheer on the junior varsity at 1 p.m., followed by the varsity at 2:30 p.m. The game is also a PAL game for players; kindergarten through fifth grade students can participate in the PAL program that pairs them with junior varsity and varsity players for the season. The connections help grow a sense of family in the schools.
