Cougars get past Austin girls hockey team

The Austin girls hockey team lost 4-2 to Mankato East (14-8-1 overall, 10-6 Big Nine) in its final home game of the regular season in Riverside Arena Tuesday.

The Packers (6-17 overall, 5-13 Big Nine) trailed 3-0 early in the third period when Jordyn McCormack and Sam Grunewald each scored a goal to make it a 3-2 game. However, the Cougars put the game away when Sydney Kanstrup scored a goal with 6:40 left in the contest.

Faith Sayles had 29 saves and the Packers had 22 shots on goal.

McCormack had an assist in the loss for Austin.

The Packers will close out the Big Nine schedule in Winona 7:30 p.m. Thursday and they will close out the regular season in Hutchinson 3 p.m. Saturday.
