A 20-year-old Austin woman was arrested early Thursday for driving under the influence of a controlled substance after being stopped for driving the wrong way on Interstate 90.
The woman, who was not identified, also gave the wrong name to Austin police after she was taken into custody for booking.
A family member arrived at the law enforcement center and corrected officers on the name of the woman. The name she had given officers was her sister’s name.
A report came to officers just after midnight of a woman driving eastbound in the westbound lane. Officers were able to stop her at the bottom of an entrance ramp at the West Oakland Avenue bridge. Officers said she probably drove about 9 miles down the wrong lane, said Capt. Dave McKichan.
In addition to allegedly driving under the influence of a controlled substance, the woman faces a gross misdemeanor charge of using someone else’s actual name.
