Mary Lou Schwartz, 56

Mary Lou Schwartz, 56, of rural Rose Creek, Minnesota, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, in Rochester, Minnesota, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus from ovarian cancer.

Mary Lou Hummel was born Dec. 21, 1960, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Donald and Patricia (Peck) Hummel, and baptized in the Lutheran faith. She attended school in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1978. After graduation, Mary Lou worked at Fleet Guard in Lake Mills, Iowa, and later at IBM in Rochester before transferring to Austin, Texas. While living and working in Texas, Mary Lou met and married Scott Sherva on April 1, 1988, in Round Rock, Texas. To this union two daughters were born. After their marriage, Scott and Mary moved back to Minnesota in 1989 to be closer to her grandmother. They divorced in 2000. While living in Minnesota, Mary Lou worked for 18 years at SPX, as well as part-time at Target in Owatonna, Minnesota.  On Feb. 2, 2013, she was united in marriage to David Schwartz at David’s family farm near Rose Creek. She enjoyed traveling with Robyn and Kimberly and later with David in the semi, caring for orphan calves and kittens and was always ready to donate to a good cause, especially to St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota.

Survivors include her husband, David Schwartz of rural Rose Creek; two daughters, Robyn Sherva of Menomonie, Wisconsin, and Kimberly Sherva of Rose Creek; a granddaughter, Raelynn Holdgrafer of Rose Creek; her parents, Donald and Patricia Hummel of Austin; two sisters, Donna Hummel of Austin and Bonnie Hummel of Goodhue, Minnesota; David’s children, Merissa Schwartz of St. Paul, Anthony Dunn, Jr. of Austin, Miranda Schwartz of Minneapolis and Alan Schwartz of Austin; her mother-in-law, Judith Schwartz of Rose Creek; sister-in-law, Lynelle (Shawn) Elward of Hayfield, Minnesota; brothers-in-law, Steve (Sharon) Schwartz of Burnsville, Minnesota and Gregg (Michelle) Schwartz of Austin; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; a sister, Karen Christiansen; and her father-in-law, Roger Schwartz.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Grandview Cemetery. The family will greet friends and family from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 4 at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin. Memorials can be directed to St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota, or a recipient of the donor’s choice.
