Phyllis J. Tonne, 92

Phyllis J. Tonne, 92, of Stewartville, Minnesota, died on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center where she had resided for two years.

Phyllis Jean Rudd was born Jan. 18, 1925, in Carroll, Iowa, to Samuel and Jessie (Cart) Rudd. She moved as a two-year-old with her family to Lansing, Minnesota, where she grew up, attended country school and then attended Austin High School. She was employed for the next five years at Hormel Company in Austin. Phyllis was married in 1947 in Lansing to Everett Wilson. Following their marriage the couple farmed in Glenville, Minnesota, for two years before returning to Lansing where they started their family and lived for the next eight years. Phyllis was a homemaker and Everett was a licensed carpenter who was employed with Stocke Construction in Rochester, Minnesota, for many years. After living in Austin for nine years, they moved to Stewartville and then Byron, Minnesota, for 14 years. Mr. Wilson died in 1983. Phyllis was married in 1985 to Ernest Tonne and they lived  and farmed in Granada, Minnesota, for five years until retiring and moving to Austin. They lived there until Mr. Tonne’s death in 2005. Phyllis moved to Stewartville that same year where she has continued to make her home. She was a past member of the United Methodist Church and St. Johns Lutheran Church in Granada. She enjoyed doing embroidery and time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by two daughters and three sons, Allen Wilson of Austin, Dwain (Colleen) Wilson of Dodge Center, Minnesota, Melinda (Vincent) King of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, RickWilson of Rochester and Judy Martin of Austin; nine grandchildren, Tony (Jody) Wilson, Angela Wilson, Dan Wilson, Stuart (Tara) Wilson, Ruth (Chris) Madison, Heather (Bill) Heddlesten, Michelle King, Kristin King (Marty Ellingson) and Robert King; 13 great-grandchildren, Emily, Tom, Elisabeth, Isaac, Lydia, Tyler, Katelin, Sean, Jordan, Michael, Mackenzie, Sawyer and Jamie; one brother, Harold Rudd of Austin; and brother-in-law, Glen Wollschlager of Lansing.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; husband, Ernest; her parents; three sisters, Esther Wollschlager, Aurella Walker, an infant sister, Dorothy; and son-in-law, Les Martin.

A time of visitation was held  from  4 to 7 p.m. on  Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.  A private family burial will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
