Rhea S. Sampson, 91

Rhea S. Sampson, 91, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017,  at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Rhea Sophia Zeller was born April 28, 1925, in Hazen, North Dakota, to Adolph and Katharina Zeller. She attended country school in North Dakota before moving to Portland, Oregon, with her sister Delores. The two lived with another sister, Linda, and her husband Barney. Rhea met her future husband while working with the USO in Portland. She and Earl K. Sampson were married Aug. 10, 1945, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. The couple settled in Austin and Rhea worked at Hormel and later as a home health aide.  She belonged to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was active in a variety of volunteer programs in the community.

Rhea is survived by her children, Kavin (Karla) Sampson of Kankakee, Illinois, Mark (Julie) Sampson of Rochester, Minnesota, and Theresa Holbrook of Fort Collins, Colorado; four grandchildren, Jasmine, Abygail, Zebulon, and Gideon; three step-grandchildren, Laura, Amber, and Harmony; one great-grandson, Elijah Bucinsi; and her sister, Violet Solberg of Portland. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother; her husband Earl, on Oct. 8, 2014; four sisters, Lavern, Alvina, Linda, and Delores; five brothers, Elmer, Reuben, Art, Walter and Roy; and three step-brothers, Louis, Billy and Ewald.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Intern Pastor Erin Coutts officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church immediately preceding the service.
