Terry Lynn Gray, 65

Terry Lynn Gray, 65, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at Mayo Clinici Hospital Saint Marys Campus in Rochester, Minnesota. She succumbed to complications from pneumonia and influenza, after years of bravely battling a myriad of other health issues.

Terry was born in Austin on July 13, 1951, to Howard and Dorothy Irwin. She grew up and lived in Austin her entire life, attending school at the St. John’s Lutheran School before moving on to the Austin Public Schools. On Aug. 22, 1970, Terry married the love of her life, John Gray, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The two of them continued to live in Austin among their numerous friends and family.

She enjoyed giving of herself, in terms of friendship, love to all, and various creative projects, including hand-embroidered dish towels, baby quilts, and baked good (especially during Christmas time). One of her greatest joys was spending time with her dogs, or anyone else’s dogs, really. In her free time she enjoyed adult coloring books and playing Bejeweled and Solitaire on her Nintendo DS. She enjoyed shopping, and spending John’s money. She also enjoyed, mostly, when John retired and they were able to travel. Above all else she enjoyed, and always made time, for friends and family. She only had two biological children, but she was a mother to many more, and loved by even more than that.

To know Terry was to love her. She was a very strong, loving and caring person. She had a good sense of humor, and needed to, living with John, as she was easy to pick on and often was the brunt of his jokes. She was loved by many and they liked to pick on her as well (mainly the guys). Because of this she developed a good back hand to one’s chest or arm. She had a quick smile and an infectious laugh, which at times had a snort that went with it. She was genuine in that she told you exactly what she thought and you accepted her for who she was.

Survivors include her husband, John, Austin; daughter, Andrea (Jason) Enfield, Austin; son, Andrew, Austin; four granddogs, Skye, Kyla, Syja and Skaoi; brothers and sisters, Gary (Gloria) Irwin of Little Falls, Minnesota, Patricia (Mick) Hull of Austin, Dorothy “Tina” Longacre of St. Paul, Minnesota, Kay (Les) Buege of St. Paul, Hugh (Monika) Irwin of Isanti, Minnesota, Miles “Mike” Irwin of Austin, and Donald Irwin of Burnsville, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Dorothy Irwin; brothers, Leslie and Charles, and sisters JeanAnn and Catherine.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Karen Behling officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be held at a future date following Terry’s wishes of cremation. Memorials may be sent to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin.
