David N. King, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Our House Senior Living.

He was born Feb. 14, 1930, in Braham, Minnesota, the son of Joseph E. and Evelyn (Norton) King. David graduated from Austin High School in 1947 and attended the Austin Area Vocational Technical Institute. He made his living as a machinist for Hormel Foods for 39 years, retiring in 1986. On Feb. 20, 1955, David married Carol Lechnir. Their union was blessed with three children. David served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952. He served in the Korean War, achieving the rank of corporal. A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin, David was active in his community. He belonged to the United Support Group, American Legion, and the VFW. He enjoyed the neighborhood kids, and liked to work on cars, attending many car shows in the area. He owned the first Jaguar licensed in the state of Minnesota. David will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Austin; his son, Brian, of Austin; son-in-law, James Berg, of Eden Prairie; sisters-in-law, Mildred King, Lucille and Beverly Lechnir; nieces, nephews; and other relatives and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents; his daughters, Lisa and Dr. Barbara Berg; two brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Bob Bailey officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before the service at the church. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 878. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Oakland, Minnesota.  Memorials can be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church or recipient of donor’s choice.
