Harold C. Busker, 94, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.
Harold was born Oct. 4, 1922, to Leo and Alice (Bestge) Busker in Dexter Township of Mower County. He attended school in the Dexter area. Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. He was married to Helen Braaten on June 6, 1946, at the Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. Together they raised one son, Daryl. Helen passed away on Jan. 4, 1982. Harold was a long-time employee of Hormel Foods, where he worked as a truck driver until retiring in 1984. Over the many years he enjoyed spending much time hunting, fishing and camping. He loved the time spent with family. He was a charter member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion and the VFW, both of Austin. In April of 2010, Harold was able to take the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit the National World War II Memorial.
Harold is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Pat Busker, Austin; grandchildren, Jeremy (Heather Ryks) of Austin, Jolene (Jed Williams) of St. Charles, Minnesota, and Justin (Jessica Vogen) of Rochester, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Madisyn, Hailey, Emma, Jesse, Peyton, Elsie and Jayden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; brothers, Edwin and Joe Busker; and sister, Caroline Kelley.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Karen Behling officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery with a flag presentation by Austin Post 91, American Legion. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church until the time of the service.
